Booking & logistics
How do I book a surf lesson in Taghazout?
Message me on WhatsApp at +212 766 823 095 with your dates, or use the booking page. I usually reply the same day and confirm the beach and time the evening before.
Where exactly do we meet for the lesson?
It depends which beach is working that day. I confirm the meeting point by WhatsApp the day before, and it is normally in Taghazout, Tamraght or Agadir.
What is included in the lesson price?
A surfboard suited to your level, a wetsuit in your size, drinking water, and the full coached session on the sand and in the water. There are no separate equipment fees.
Do you offer pickup from my accommodation?
Transport to whichever beach we are surfing that day is handled. Pickup from your accommodation in Taghazout or Tamraght can usually be arranged, so just ask when you book.
What is your cancellation policy?
Message me as early as you can so the spot can go to someone else. If conditions are not safe for your level, I contact you to reschedule at no cost.
Can I book a surf lesson last minute?
Often yes, especially outside July and August. WhatsApp is the fastest way to find out what is available tomorrow.
Experience & skill levels
I have never surfed before. Can I learn with you?
Yes, and most of my students are complete beginners. You start in whitewater on a sandy beach break where you can stand up, after a full briefing on the sand.
I took surf lessons before and did not progress. Can you help?
Usually yes. The two common reasons are groups that were too big to get real feedback, and being taught at whichever beach was closest rather than the one suited to the conditions. I keep groups to four or five and choose the beach on the day.
Do you teach intermediate and advanced surfers?
Yes. For surfers already riding green waves I run guiding rather than lessons, taking you to whichever point or reef is working and coaching positioning and wave selection.
What is the maximum group size?
Four to five students per instructor. Small enough that you get corrected in the water instead of waiting your turn.
Can children take surf lessons?
Yes, from age seven upwards. I have a lot of experience teaching kids and keep the lesson fun while making sure they actually learn properly and stay safe.
Practical details
What should I bring to a surf lesson?
Swimwear, a towel and reef-safe sunscreen. The board, wetsuit and water are provided, so there is nothing else you need to carry.
How long is a surf lesson?
Between two and two and a half hours, including the beach briefing, warm-up and time in the water.
What time do lessons start?
It varies with the tide and the swell rather than being a fixed slot. I confirm the time with you the day before so you always surf the best window.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety comes first. If conditions are not suitable for your level I contact you to reschedule. Taghazout is consistent enough that an alternative day is usually easy to find.
About Taghazout & Morocco
When is the best time of year to surf in Taghazout?
October to April brings the biggest and most consistent Atlantic swells, which suits improving and experienced surfers. May to September is smaller and gentler, which is better if you are starting from scratch.
Besides surfing, what else is there to do in Taghazout?

Is Taghazout safe for solo travellers?
Yes. Taghazout and the surrounding surf villages are generally very safe, with low crime and a long history of hosting surfers. Normal sensible precautions apply, and the ocean deserves more respect than anything on land.
Do you speak English?
Yes. I teach in English, French and Arabic, plus basic German.
Where are the best places to eat in Taghazout?
After your lesson I am happy to point you at the authentic local spots rather than the tourist ones, for tagine, fresh fish and mint tea.

How long have you been teaching surfing?
More than ten years, and I grew up surfing this coast. I am the one who meets you on the beach rather than handing the lesson to seasonal staff.
What makes your teaching different?
Local knowledge and small groups. I read the swell each morning and pick the beach that suits your level that day, instead of teaching everyone at the same spot regardless of conditions.
Can you help with local tips beyond surfing?
Yes. Where to eat, what to see, how to get around and what is worth your time. Ten years here is worth more than a guidebook.
Do you offer multi-day surf packages?
Yes. Multi-day packages are better value and give much faster progression than single lessons. Message me with your dates for a custom package.
Safety & equipment
Is surfing dangerous for beginners?
Not when it is taught properly. Beginner lessons run on sandy beach breaks in water where you can stand, with a briefing beforehand and an instructor within reach of you throughout.
What kind of surfboards do you use?
Soft-top boards for beginners, which are stable and safe to fall on. As you progress you move onto funboards and then shorter boards.
Are wetsuits provided?
Yes, in every size, included in the lesson price. Water here ranges from about 16 degrees Celsius in winter to 22 in late summer, so you will want one.
What if I am not a strong swimmer?
You do not need to be an Olympic swimmer, but you should be comfortable in water. Beginner lessons take place in shallow areas where you can always put your feet down.
