Agadir Airport to Taghazout: Taxi Prices, Travel Time and Transfers

Two smiling surf students standing with pink and blue soft-top boards on the beach near Taghazout

The quick answer

Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) is about 45 km from Taghazout, usually 40 to 50 minutes by car. The easiest way is a taxi or a pre-arranged transfer. A whole taxi or transfer for the trip usually costs around 250 to 300 dirhams (about €23 to €28) for the car. There is no direct bus.

Almost every student I teach flies into Agadir, and the most common question I get on WhatsApp before they land is how to get to Taghazout without being overcharged. Here is the honest version, from someone who lives here.

Your options compared

Prices change with the season, the time of day and how good you are at agreeing a price, so use these as a guide, not a promise.

Taking a taxi from the airport

When you walk out of arrivals you will see the taxi rank straight away. For Taghazout you need a grand taxi, the large cars that drive between towns. The small city taxis only work inside Agadir.

  1. Agree the price first. Say “Taghazout” and the price you expect before anyone touches your bags. A first offer of 400 or 500 dirhams is normal; a fair price is usually around 250 to 300 MAD for the whole car.
  2. The price is for the car, not per person. If you are two or three people, you split it.
  3. Night costs more. After about 9pm, expect to pay a bit more, and fewer drivers are waiting.
  4. Say where you are staying. Taghazout village, Taghazout Bay (the resort area), Tamraght and Aourir are different places along the same road. Give the name of your accommodation, not just “Taghazout”.

Pre-arranged transfer

A transfer means a driver is waiting in arrivals with your name, the price is agreed before you fly, and you go straight to your door. It costs a little more than haggling at the rank, but it removes all the stress, and it is the option I recommend if:

  • your flight lands late in the evening or at night,
  • you are travelling with children,
  • you are bringing a surfboard, which not every taxi will carry,
  • it is your first time in Morocco and you do not want to negotiate after a long day.

If you are taking lessons with me, I can arrange your airport transfer to Taghazout or Tamraght at the same time as your booking. Send me your flight number and the name of your accommodation on WhatsApp and I will confirm the price for your group.

Bus on a budget

There is no direct bus from the airport to Taghazout. It is possible with changes: a city bus from near the airport to Inezgane, then a connection to Agadir, then the local bus that runs along the coast through Aourir and Tamraght to Taghazout. Each ticket costs only a few dirhams, but with waiting times the trip easily takes two hours or more, and the last buses leave in the early evening.

It is only worth it if you have time, light luggage and a very small budget. With a surfboard or after dark, take a taxi or a transfer.

What to do when you land

  • Get cash. Taxis, small cafés and many shops in Taghazout are cash only. There are ATMs in the arrivals hall; take out enough for the taxi and your first days.
  • Buy a SIM card if you need data. It is cheap and makes the first evening much easier: maps, WhatsApp, calling your accommodation.
  • Do not change money at the first counter you see if the rate looks poor; an ATM is usually the better deal.
  • Message your accommodation with your landing time so they can meet you or send the exact pin.

Most flights land with enough daylight left to be in the water the same afternoon. If you land in the morning, you can be at your first beginner surf lesson after lunch.

Getting back to the airport

Taxis do not wait around Taghazout the way they do at the airport. Ask your accommodation, your surf school or me to book one the day before, and leave about two and a half hours before your flight to allow for traffic around Agadir and check-in. The price is similar to the trip in.

Not a direct one. You can do it with two or three changes through Inezgane and Agadir, but it takes two hours or more and only works in the daytime.
