Surf camps in Morocco
Surf Camps in Taghazout: Costs and the Alternative
A surf camp bundles your bed, your lessons and usually your breakfast into one weekly price. It is the simplest way to book a surf trip to Morocco. It is not the only way, and not always the cheapest.
The short version
What a surf camp actually is
Accommodation plus surfing, sold as one package. In Taghazout that ranges from shared dorms with two lessons a week to private rooms with daily coaching and all meals.
Which is exactly why comparing advertised prices is close to useless. What matters is what sits inside the package.
If you want the social side and zero planning, book a camp. If you want to choose where you sleep, surf when conditions are right, and pay only for the lessons you take, book the parts separately.
What you get
What is included in a surf camp
- Accommodation — dorm or private room, usually with breakfast
- Surf lessons — typically five across a week
- Board and wetsuit for your whole stay
- Transport to the beach each day
- A social programme — group dinners, yoga, day trips
The two things that differ most between camps are how many lessons are actually included and whether meals beyond breakfast are covered.
Two camps advertising similar weekly prices can differ by several hundred euros once you account for those. Read the inclusions before you compare the numbers.
Head to head
Camp versus booking it yourself
Neither column is the right answer for everyone. This is the honest structural difference.
| Surf camp | Booking separately | |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | Included, chosen for you | Your choice, any budget |
| Lessons | Fixed number and schedule | As you go, from €25 |
| If the surf is flat | You paid for it anyway | You simply do not book |
| Meeting people | Built in | Up to you |
| Flexibility | Low | High |
| Planning effort | Almost none | An hour or two |
| Best for | Solo travellers, first trips | Couples, families, tight budgets |
Worth knowing first
You probably need three lessons, not five
Most people stand up in their first session. Riding a proper green wave usually takes about three.
A five-lesson package is not five times more progression than one. And lessons spread across a week work far better than five stacked on consecutive days, because your body needs the recovery and your head needs the gap.
That single fact is the most useful thing to know before you pay for a package.

There is a fuller breakdown in the surf lesson price guide. The figure worth comparing against a camp is not the total, but the per-night and per-lesson cost — those are what a camp is really selling you.
Which suits you
Who should book a camp
The surfing itself
Same coast either way
Whichever route you take, the waves are identical. Beginners learn on sandy beach breaks — Panoramas, Banana Beach in Aourir, Devil’s Rock in Tamraght.
The famous point breaks, Anchor Point and Killer Point, are reef waves for experienced surfers. All eleven of the country’s best spots are in the guide to surfing in Morocco, and the best time to surf in Taghazout covers which months suit which level.

Common questions
How much does a surf camp in Taghazout cost?
Camps in Taghazout advertise a wide range of weekly prices depending on whether you are in a shared dorm or a private room, how many lessons are included and whether meals are covered. Rather than compare headline prices, work out the per-night accommodation cost and the per-lesson cost separately, then compare those against booking each part yourself.
What is included in a surf camp in Morocco?
Most surf camps bundle accommodation, breakfast, a set number of surf lessons or guided sessions, equipment and transport to the beach. Some include all meals and airport transfers. The number of lessons and whether meals are included are the two things that vary most between camps.
Is a surf camp cheaper than booking lessons separately?
Not always. A camp bundles accommodation and lessons into one price, which is convenient, but you pay for the whole package whether or not you surf every day. Booking your own accommodation and paying per lesson is usually cheaper if you want fewer than five lessons in a week.
Do I need to stay at a surf camp to take surf lessons in Taghazout?
No. Surf lessons in Taghazout are sold independently of accommodation. You can stay anywhere in Taghazout, Tamraght or Agadir and book lessons separately, from 25 EUR per person including board and wetsuit.
Is a surf camp a good idea for a solo traveller?
It can be, because the social side is the main thing a camp adds. If meeting other travellers matters more to you than flexibility or cost, a camp does that well. If you would rather choose your own accommodation and surf when conditions suit you, booking separately works better.
What is the best time of year for a surf camp in Taghazout?
October to April brings the biggest and most consistent Atlantic swells, which suits improving and experienced surfers. May to September is smaller and gentler, which is better if you are learning from scratch. There are waves every month of the year.
How many surf lessons do I actually need in a week?
Most people stand up in their first session, and riding an unbroken green wave usually takes about three. Three lessons spread across a week gives better progression than five stacked on consecutive days, which is worth knowing before you pay for a package of five.
Lessons without the package
I am a local instructor, not a camp. I teach the lessons myself, in groups of four or five, and you stay wherever you like. Send me your dates and I will tell you honestly how many lessons you need.
